Hollywood: Fair or Racist?

Is Hollywood racist?
Cradle of biggest and brightest star. Were opportunities open to everybody no matter what colour you are, but was it just a partial truth about Hollywood dream or it’s an honest insight?

Recently star of Slumdog Millionaire, Dev Patel an Indian Actor, made an screatchy sound. He is angry with Hollywood for not having offered a substantial roles. That there’s a lot of racism and stereotyping going on amongst Asian star. He frankly stated the huge success of Slumdog Millionaire that bagged an Oscar who was made big, there were a lot of pressure on his part of what he will do next. And He wanted a role that would stretch him in his second film but all he was getting offered were stereotypical roles like a goofy Indian Sidekick for instance.

Well here are some of Dev Patel quoted citation.

“I’m likely to be offered the roles of a terrorist, cab driver, and smart geek…I want to show that I have versatility”

He continues ” Being an Asian actor, it’s never going to be easy. Hopefully the industry is changing and the casting directors will be less focused on colour so that the people like myself can get through the door”

Dev Patel may not be fortunate on his second film in compare to his first movie. The Last Airbender film become the source of numerous protest and it has been accused of racism. People contesting the appearance of the White actors who plays role that have been played by Asians in the original cartoon show before.

I might say Hollywood is not racist, if so then I bet we should not be having famous Latinos, Asians, Native Americans and other minority groups celebrities for they would only market Caucasians and Afro-Americans. They are trying to advocate a fair and equal chances to all allowing other races to prove theirselves and to shine through.

Sure it is that Hollywood is a part of America, but Hollywood itself is the “world”, that bridge the gap and it’s always been Hollywood the gateway to stardom. Pimp my ride, Hollywood here we come!
